Plant a tree and watch it grow on google earth
There is some news that seems very unbelievable but the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) has announced a new program which enables people to donate $5.50 and to buy a tree and watch it grow on google earth. The tree will be planted in a Rain Forest in Sebangau National Forest in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. As well as buying the tree for you, they plant it as well and even better you can watch its growth. As google earth is getting more up to date and more accurate satellite images for its software Google Earth you will be able to actually see your tree grow!
NEWtrees is a joint venture by WWF Indonesia, Nokia and Equinox Publishing. Google say that this replanting project gives people a new way to help reforest this protected national park and monitor the growth of the trees through geotags (trees labeled with precise latitude and longitude coordinates) viewable via Google Earth and Yahoo Maps.
